Grimes has issued an apology after her “disastrous” DJ set at Coachella over the weekend, which many have dubbed every DJ’s worst nightmare.

The Canadian artist faced technical difficulties about 20 minutes into her 50-minute set, with tracks reportedly playing at double their intended tempo.

During the live stream from Coachella, she could be heard expressing frustration: “Sorry! We’re experiencing a major technical difficulty, trying to sync… I’m not great at math for this, but here we go.”

Blamed on a fault with Rekordbox, Grimes’ repeated apologies and struggles to sync have led to her Sahara Stage performance being labeled as one of Coachella’s worst.

Following the set, Grimes took to Twitter to apologize and assure fans that such issues won’t occur during her second Coachella show next weekend.

“I will personally organize all the files next week. I will not let this happen again,” she promised.

“I’ve dedicated months to this show, creating music and visuals, and although I’m not in the best mood right now, next week will be flawless. Everything will go through my hands.”

  1. First of all she is not a DJ and she never pretended to be a DJ;
she is actually a great producer who usually plays live on stage with keyboards, guitar on stage, and singer.
(for those who dare to say she is having a ghost producer, just have a look at her studio sessions on YouTube, she is actually doing every instrument parts by herself.)
I personally don’t know why she accepted to do a djset for the festival but she was clearly missing practices, and this was not professional from her.
She had issue with some tracks badly analyzed by rekordbox, showing BPM at 160 instead 80,and she didn’t know how to fix it on the cdjs, nothing about not knowing to do the math.
This happens to many djs but they use to solve the problem in few seconds, and obviously she was missing that knowledge.
Many DJs are blaming her, but I also know many of them never really trusted Rekordbox, hoping to avoid lags or bugs or realizing the firmware was not updated.
Also, why didn’t any technicians come to help and fix it?
I am personally a producer (made about 70 records)and since 40 years and live performer on hardware gear since 1996.
But I am not a DJ.
Sometimes I am doing some djset but with controllers and using Traktor, I am practicing on cdjs and don’t feel enough confident to use it on stage.
This is the mistake Grimes did on the first place, not being prepared enough.
At least nobody could claim she was faking playing a pre-recorded set, even though it might have been a better idea in this case.
The most which upset me is to see all those some pretentious Djs claiming how good they are in front of a real musician and performer, telling her to use her ears, while they use it only to mix 2 single tracks, already made by somebody else.

  2. “I will personally organize all the files” is crazy to me. You should do it everytime to make sure and double-check any mistakes. Especially when you playin gig like Coachella. Wdym I will personally organize all the files. Its literally part of your job. Its DJing not modeling.
