Ableton releases Live update for beta testing

Ableton has released Live Beta 11.3.

The update gives Live users a new instrument called Drift and expands MPE controls across the DAW. It’s a free update for all versions of Live, from Lite to Suite.

MPE, or MIDI polyphonic expression, is an updated MIDI protocol that allows much more expressive control over instruments. Live 11.3 adds MPE capability to a number of Ableton synths, including Analog, Collision, Electric and Tension. Live’s MPE Control device has also been given a new UI, improved CPU load and more functionality.

The new instrument, Drift, is a two-oscillator polysynth designed to emulate old analogue synths and the way their oscillators and tuning drift in and out of phase, creating warmth and character. It also allows users to overdrive its filter, producing additional harmonics. The new device is MPE-ready.
